Location announced for second clinic

Friday, 31 January 2014 00:22

After months of secrecy, Urgent Care of Mountain View is pleased to announce the specific location of its second urgent care center.

The clinic has previously said it would open an office in Alexander County; however, that location had been kept under wraps. The new urgent care will be at 60 Second Ave. SW in Taylorsville, near the intersection of Highways 16 and 90. The building is across from the closed hospital building and behind People’s Drug.

A decision at Tuesday’s Catawba County Board of Commissioners meeting to sell the building and land it sits on to the Town of Taylorsville for the development of an urgent care center cemented the plan.

Catawba Valley Medical Center has owned the Taylorsville property and building for 15 years, but the hospital had left it vacant.

Since the town’s hospital closed in 2006, access to evening and weekend medical care in Alexander County has been limited.

In recent years, Taylorsville officials and county health administrators have made access to healthcare and emergency services a top priority.

“Increasing medical services is necessary for the county’s future growth,” said George Holleman, mayor of Taylorsville.

Building renovations are expected to begin within the next month and should be completed in six to eight months if there are no unforeseen delays.

“We are so excited about opening a new location in Taylorsville,” said Brian Bechtol, CEO of Urgent Care of Mountain View. “This community has needed this kind of service for years and we are honored to be the ones to fill the need.”

Renovations will include a complete overhaul of the interior space, complete with new exam rooms, a basic laboratory, digital x-ray, as well as cosmetic and functional changes that will make it convenient and comfortable for patients. There will also be a special space for children within the facility, making their time at the urgent care a positive experience. Changes to the outside of the building include modernizing the exterior, making the facility handicap accessible and purchasing a new heating and air system.

The new center will be open seven days a week. As in the Hickory location, the center will be in network with Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Medicare, Medicaid, and most major insurance plans.  Self-pay patients will also be welcome.

The facility will be in addition to the current Hickory location. Hiring will not begin until shortly before the urgent care opens.

Urgent Care of Mountain View and urgent care centers across the country provide unscheduled, extended-hour access for acute illnesses and injuries beyond the scope or availability of typical primary care practices or retail clinics.

Urgent Care of Mountain View is located at 2872 S. N.C. 127 Highway in the Mountain View area of Hickory. It has served more than 10,000 patients from Catawba, Lincoln, Burke, Cleveland and Caldwell counties for two years. The center's providers treat a wide variety of illnesses and injuries, as well as conduct sports physical exams and N.C. Department of Transportation physicals.
