Urgent care expanding, bringing new providers

Two new providers are joining Urgent Care of Mountain View in preparation for the opening of the practice’s second location. That new location, at 60 Second Ave. SW in Taylorsville, is slated to begin seeing patients in late August.

Lora TarabanLora Taraban, a family nurse practitioner, has worked as part of the West Caldwell Health Council’s mobile unit, in the Wilkes Regional Medical Center and Catawba Valley Medical Center emergency departments, and has family practice experience. She earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Lenoir-Rhyne University and her advanced degree from East Tennessee State University.

Marilyn Gamewell, also a family nurse practitioner, likewise has experience in emergency medicine and family medicine, as well as a background in public health. She has worked for urgent care centers around the region as well as the emergency department at Wilkes Regional Medical Center and Cleveland Regional Medical Center. She has previously worked for both the Catawba and Caldwell county health departments. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Winston-Salem State University and her advanced degree from the University of South Carolina.

Marilyn GamewellBoth will join Urgent Care of Mountain View’s Taylorsville office, which will feature five examination rooms and on-site laboratory and x-ray services.

Urgent Care of Mountain View and urgent care centers across the country provide unscheduled, extended-hour access for acute illnesses and injuries beyond the scope or availability of typical primary care practices or retail clinics.

Urgent Care of Mountain View currently has one location at 2872 S. N.C. 127 Highway in the Mountain View area of Hickory. It has served more than 12,000 patients from Catawba, Alexander, Lincoln, Burke, Cleveland and Caldwell counties for two years. The center's providers treat a wide variety of illnesses and injuries, as well as conduct sports physical exams and N.C. Department of Transportation physicals. It operates from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays. The center is in network with Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross and other major insurance carriers.
